Pilates is a gentle yet highly effective method of exercise developed by Joseph Pilates, focusing on strengthening the deeper core muscles to improve posture, balance, and overall body alignment. Movements are slow, controlled, and designed to both strengthen and lengthen muscles.

Suitable for all fitness levels, Pilates can:

  • Improve posture, balance, flexibility, and stability
  • Strengthen and tone muscles
  • Support injury rehabilitation (especially back and neck pain)
  • Relieve stress and promote overall wellbeing

At West Thames Physiotherapy, we keep classes small — a maximum of 7 participants — to ensure close supervision and hands-on correction from your instructor.

Pilates uses your own body weight and resistance to build strength, mobility, flexibility, and balance. This approach is widely recommended for injury prevention, rehabilitation, and improving general fitness.

We also offer one-to-one Pilates sessions for beginners or anyone wanting tailored guidance. These sessions focus on the fundamentals, helping you understand your body and engage your core muscles effectively — without the need for equipment.

Whether you're recovering from injury, improving athletic performance, or enhancing your wellbeing, Pilates provides a safe, effective path to better health.
